Wellington Park in Walmer, Port Elizabeth.

There is a field that abuts the valley above Settlers Park about the size of a sports field. Its use has been confined to casual recreation and dog walking, ideally positioned for those walkers who wish to venture into Settlers Park itself.

A local resident with a passion for the environment has managed to pursuade the local council that an improvement is needed for the field and immediate surrounds. The objective, a Tree Park. Council appears to have responded in favour of the idea by providing men to prepare holes for the planting of indigenous trees and shrubs, quite a job on stony ground.

Wood chips are being brought in to provide mulching for each planting. The chips decompose fairly quickly. The result is a good rich compost which should ensure good growth.

The positioning of each plant is done in such a way so as to benefit from the direction of water flow to maximize supply to each and every tree. The slope of the ground is a prime consideration.

Flow from outside the park is being directed as well.

And when these grow, we should have a little forest.
And more.
